No names, no history and no premises to list: what matters is what the licence allows, who checks the work and how a visit runs. That is what this page sets out.

Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter Licences Explained

Queensland runs two licence layers: an occupational licence for the person on the tools, and a contractor licence for the business taking the job on. The QBCC issues both.

Each layer proves something different:

  1. The occupational licence

proves the holder has the skills for the work itself.

  2. The contractor licence

proves the business behind the job has the financial capacity and the training to run work properly.

The work splits across three classes:

  1. Plumbing work

sits with a plumber's licence, outside any specialised endorsements.

  2. Below-ground drainage

sits with a drainer's licence: sewers, stormwater lines and the connections out to the street.

  3. Gas work

belongs to licensed gasfitters alone, from installing a system through to servicing, testing and signing it off.

Regulated plumbing and drainage jobs fall into permit, notifiable and minor categories, and a licensed plumber or drainer must do all three. Before any gas job begins, you are entitled to sight the gas work licence of the person arriving at your door.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive

The QBCC handles licensing and the notifiable work register, while your local council handles applications for permits and carries out inspections. An owner can also ask council to inspect notifiable work at whatever stage suits, and an inspector may attend with your consent as occupier.

The paperwork you receive depends on the job:

  1. A Form 4

after notifiable work, lodged with the QBCC and copied to you. Ask the QBCC for a copy if one never lands.

  2. A gas compliance certificate

straight after a new or altered gas system is finished, with a copy to the network operator inside 5 days where the system feeds off the network.

  3. Register searches

any time you like: the QBCC's online registers confirm a plumber's licence, and an address search shows the Form 4s recorded for a property.

Diagnose, Quote, Repair and Test

  1. 1

    Describe the fault

Phone (07) 3524 7163 or fill in the contact form with what you are seeing. Photos of a leak or a corroded fitting help us arrive prepared.

  2. 2

    Diagnose on site

We test on the spot, whether the job is a cottage near the Botanic Gardens off Henzell Street or a foreshore apartment. Salt air and old pipes each leave their own fingerprints, so we confirm the cause first.

  3. 3

    Quote and approve

A fixed quote comes before any work starts: flat-rate pricing, no hidden fees, and nothing begins until you approve the figure.

  4. 4

    Test and hand over

We run every fixture and line we touched, then you can pay on the spot by card or EFTPOS. Any Form 4 or gas compliance certificate goes to you before we leave.

Questions People Ask Our Plumbers

Call (07) 3524 7163

What is the difference between a plumber and a drainer?

A plumber's licence covers the water pipes and fittings in your home, while a drainer's licence covers drainage work below ground level. Our QBCC No: 15024607 covers plumbing, drainage and gas work.

What can I do if plumbing work in Redcliffe turns out faulty?

Raise it with the plumber first and give them the chance to put it right. If the work is unlicensed, defective or non-compliant, you can lodge a complaint with the QBCC online.

Which suburbs around Redcliffe does the team work in?

We take jobs across the peninsula plus neighbouring Margate, Kippa-Ring, Scarborough and Newport. The full list sits on the suburbs we cover page, so check there if your street falls just outside.

Does the team work on units and rentals as well as houses?

Yes, we take all three. Houses and owner-occupied units book us directly, while a rental needs the landlord or property manager to approve the work first. Anything touching shared lines in a unit goes through the body corporate.
